Initially, the medal was to be CNC laser cut, but it turned out this was too expensive, so the artist scroll sawed the medal by hand. This medal is built up of nine layers of sheet bronze, 1 mm thick. The top three and bottom three layers have cutouts that form silhouettes of a boy and girl and their birth dates: the two children of the commissioner. All layers have crenellated edges. When the layers are stacked in de right position, the text on the rim is formed by the cutaways. The layers are riveted with bronze wire.
